Lowndes’ boys and girls tennis teams each swept non-region matches 5-0 against Cook on Thursday at the LHS tennis courts.
The Viking boys dropped a single point in five matches against the Hornets to move to 2-0 on the season, while the girls improve to 1-1.
Liam Wetherington won 6-0, 6-0 in his first start at No. 1 singles as Lowndes swept straight sets at every slot in its lineup except No. 2 singles, where Brant Chancy earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Tee Mitchell represented the Vikings at No. 3 singles for the second consecutive week. No. 1 and No. 2 doubles remained static as well with the team of Ryan Wilkinson and Connor Chancy and the duo of Nathan Trees and Eli Farmer, respectively.
On the girls’ side, Lowndes cruised to victories in the three singles matches and came out on top of a couple of tough matchups in doubles.
Hannah Gandy slotted in at No. 1 against Cook and defeated her counterpart in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Megan Hawkins won 6-1, 6-2, and Halle Gandy beat her opponent at No. 3 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Tori Vorhees and Kariah Freeman overcame a loss in the first set to win their match at No. 1 in a super tiebreaker 2-6, 6-4, 13-11.
Joyce Liu and Reagan Robbins also bounced back from dropping their first set at No. 2 to pull out a 5-7, 7-6, 11-9 victory.
Lowndes won’t have long to enjoy its wins. The boys and girls are back in action today in a road match against Camden County.
