Man City’s three summer signings lined up

Manchester City & Fred

One again on Monday morning, Man City fans are told that they are signing Fred.

Last week reports out of Brazil announced that Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder.

Fred played twice against Man City in the Champions League this season. Shakhtar lost 2-0 in Manchester before they became the first team to beat Pep Guardiola’s men in the return match.

Rumours linking the Brazilian with the Sky Blues have been around for months, and the deal seems be nailed on. The Times now report:

Manchester City are close to completing a £50 million deal for the Brazilian midfielder Fred.

The 24-year-old, who has won six caps for Brazil, replaced Fernandinho as a midfielder for Shakhtar in 2013 and is expected to compete against him for a first-team place at City next season, while also being groomed as his long-term replacement.

It’s also worth noting that Yaya Toure is set to leave Man City this summer.

Philippe Sandler & Claudio Gomes

But Man City are also looking on boosting their youth squad in the summer too.

Revealing how they are always on the lookout for the best European kids, Man City are being tipped with moves for Dutch and French teenagers:

City are also close to completing deals to sign Philippe Sandler, the Holland Under-20 defender, from PEC Zwolle and Claudio Gomes, a 17-year-old midfielder who plays in Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) youth team. Sandler has already made 21 appearances for Zwolle in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Basel vs Manchester City: Champions League preview

Manchester City travel to Switzerland for the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Basel on Tuesday night.

City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 16 points after their 5-1 win over Leicester this weekend. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the home side before Sergio Aguero scored four goals in the second half.

Guardiola’s side have now drawn one and won five of their last six.

Basel remain second in the Swiss Super League following their 2-0 away win at Thun. Kevin Bua and Dimitri Oberlin netted for Raphael Wicky’s side.
