Shocking stat perfectly sums up Chelsea’s current struggles

An amazing statistic has come to the fore following Chelsea’s 4-1 loss at the hands of Watford this evening, highlighting how historically poor the Blues’ last two results have been.

Matchup

The two sides went head to head at Vicarage Road earlier tonight, with visitors Chelsea coming into proceedings on the back of a shock 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth last time out.

The capital giants had managed victories in just 3 of their last 9 fixtures across all competitions before today, with murmurs having emerged in the English media over recent days that a loss tonight could see the club part ways with manager Antonio Conte.

Watford, meanwhile, had picked up just 2 wins from their last 14 games, with the Hornets having sat precariously 3 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone before this evening.

Horror show

The early goings of tonight’s clash surprisingly saw hosts Watford well on top, with the likes of Gerard Deulofeu and Richarlison looking particularly dangerous.

However, the Hornets were assisted to no end by the dreadful showing of Blues’ midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

After giving the ball away cheaply inside his own half on 3 occasions with the first half-hour, the former Monaco man eventually lashed out on Etienne Capoue and received a yellow card.

And, incredibly, after allowing the ball to get away from him once again in the middle of the park, Bakayoko lunged into a challenge with the incoming Richarlison just minutes later.

Referee Craig Pawson (harshly) judged Bakayoko’s tackle as worthy of a second yellow, with Chelsea’s summer signing given his marching orders after just 30 minutes in one of the worst performances in recent Premier League memory.

1-0

And Watford didn’t take long to make their man advantage count, as the blistering Gerard Deulofeu went down in the Chelsea box under a challenge from Thibaut Courtois, with Troy Deeney stepping up to smash home the ensuing penalty with aplomb.

Hectic finish

Proceedings on the pitch remained relatively quiet from here until the 82nd-minute, when a piece of individual magic from Eden Hazard dragged Chelsea back into the game.

However, in one of the most spectacular collapses of the season to date, the Blues somehow conspired to allow Watford to notch 3 goals in the space of 7 minutes, with the likes of David Luiz and Gary Cahill looking as though they had never stepped foot on the pitch together before.

Tonight’s 4-1 result, when coupled with Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth last week, gave rise to a remarkable statistic, as highlighted below:
