Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard & Rangers
It’s been several days now of rumours about Steven Gerrard leaving Liverpool to join Rangers.
Rumours in Scotland and south of the border are ramping up that Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard is about to become the new gaffer at Ibrox.
Graeme Murty has been in the Rangers dugout since the departure of Pedro Caixinha.
Rangers are looking to sure up a new long term manager, and Gerrard is top of their wish-list.
Graeme Souness warns Gerrard
In this weekend’s Sunday Times, columnist Graeme Souness has warned Steven Gerrard about taking the Rangers job.
Souness had no managerial experience when he was appointed Rangers boss in 1986, and ended up winning seven trophies in his spell with the club.
Yet he’s warned Gerrard that Ibrox is “a very different proposition now to the one I took on”. Souness claimed the Rangers job would be a “shock” for Gerrard:
He’s be going into a club on the back foot, that’s been in turmoil for almost a decade now.
The remit is to knock Celtic off their perch but, because of Champions League money, they are years ahead in terms of their revenue, which is three times that of Rangers.
Trust me, it’s terrible being the second team in the Old Firm derby.
Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership, albeit they are 10 points behind Celtic.
If Gerrard is appointed at Rangers, he’ll go head-to-head with his former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who is of course at the helm at Celtic.
Gerrard is the current manager of the Liverpool U18 side.
