Carlos Martinez was flat-out bad in his season-opening loss to the Mets, but Wednesday he bounced back with a Cy Young-like performance.
The Cardinals dropped the Brewers 6-0 to win the rubber match thanks to his 8 1/3 innings of shutout, 10-strikeout ball.
According to ESPN, it was the fourth time in the last two years Martinez has made a start with 10 strikeouts without allowing a run. Only Chris Sale has more such outings.
Carlos Martínez had 10 K over 8 1/3 scoreless IP. It’s his 4th outing since the start of last season in which he had 10+ K and did not allow a run. Only Chris Sale (7) has more scoreless outings with 10+ K in that span. pic.twitter.com/Kj3exIUVS5
