Part of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the Perry Maxwell-designed course opened in 1924 and was updated by designer Tripp Davis in 2004. Its tree-lined fairways, dramatic elevation changes and natural rock outcroppings are the stuff golfers’ dreams are made of (or is that nightmares?) Cherokee Hills earns high marks for pace of play and staff friendliness and the casino is just steps away for those who want indoor entertainment after the outdoor excursion.

About 15 minutes outside Tulsa, The Canyons at Blackjack Ridge makes a solid choice for a frequent or weekend golfer. It’s a “golf only” facility that offers special senior, junior and twilight rates and household and corporate memberships in addition to individual. Designed by Floyd Farley, ASGCA and Randy Heckenkemper, the course opened back in 1958, but its course rating of 69.5 and slope rating of 125 make it a 21st century challenge.
Woodbine at Mohawk Park Golf Course

This top Tulsa golf pick is right inside Tulsa city limits. Woodbine is one of the area’s most historic and challenging courses. Built in the 1920s, it was redesigned in 1934 by Floyd Farley and today includes mature oak and pecan trees with little water hazards, generous fairways and large greens. Nearby Pecan Valley includes a 9-hole course of par 4s and 3s that’s used as a First Tee instructional facility for youth golfers. Mohawk Park is also home to the trending sport of Footgolf, a hybrid that combines golf and soccer on a shortened course. Players kick a regulation soccer ball to a 21-inch diameter hole or cup, with the goal of making the ball into the cup in each hole’s “par” or better.
