Chelsea make initial contact with Juventus over Gonzalo Higuain transfer

According to Sky Italy, Chelsea have made initial contact with Juventus over the transfer of Gonzalo Higuain.

New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has previously worked with Higuain at Napoli and is said to be keen to reunite with him at Stamford Bridge.

Prolific goal-scorer

Higuaín is now 30 years of age and has enjoyed an illustrious career in which he has proven to be a prolific goal scorer.

The Argentinean moved to Real Madrid in January of 2007 for a fee of around £10.8 million. While at Madrid Higuaín cemented his name as one of the world’s best strikers.

Higuaín played 264 games for the Spanish giants scoring 122 and assisting 56 in that time. The forward also helped Madrid win three La Liga titles, one Spanish Cup and two Spanish Super Cups.

Higuaín would then leave Madrid for Serie A side Napoli in 2013 for £35 million. The Argentinean played 147 games for Napoli scoring 92 and assisting 26 before signing with Juventus in 2016 for a huge fee of £78 million.

Since arriving at Juventus Higuaín has played 105 games over two seasons, scoring 55 and assisting 12 for the Italian giants.

Much needed replacement

Alvaro Morata arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer for a whopping sum believed to be around £60 million.

However, despite the hefty price tag Morata has failed to impress for the Blues. The forward started the season well scoring six goals in his first six league games.

But since the 9th of December 2017, Morata has scored a dismal two Premier League goals. His poor displays brought him under huge criticism from his manager and fans alike.

This would lead to Morata becoming somewhat of a fringe player for Chelsea as Antonio Conte would at times, choose to play Eden Hazard up front, rather than Morata.

Alvaro Morata’s poor season would also see him miss out on Spain’s World Cup squad when it was announced in May and now he is likely to be replaced by Higuain at Chelsea.
