Claudio Bravo injury: Manchester City fear Chilean could miss rest of season through injury

The Premier League champions could be left with just one senior goalkeeper after the Chilean suffered a serious-looking injury in training on Monday

Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo could miss the rest of the season through an Achilles injury, Goal understands.

Bravo went down in training on Monday and City sources fear he will be out of action for several months.

It is the second serious injury to a City player in under a week, after Kevin De Bruyne damaged knee ligaments last Wednesday. The Belgian will be out for between two to three months.

According to initial checks by City’s medical staff Bravo’s injury appears to be more serious.

The goalkeeper tweeted on Monday evening: “It doesn’t matter what happened, or how bad it seems today, life goes on, and tomorrow no doubt will be better.”

Should the club’s fears be confirmed the Premier League champions could be left with just one senior goalkeeper – Ederson – until at least the January transfer window.

Daniel Grimshaw, 20, would be in line to replace Bravo as Ederson’s understudy.

City sold Angus Gunn to Southampton during the summer, while young prospect Aro Muric is on loan at NAC Breda.

Bravo has been playing second fiddle at the Etihad Stadium for more than a year now, managing only 13 appearances overall and featuring primarily in the two domestic cup competitions.

The 35-year-old moved to City in 2016, having spent a successful two-year spell at Barcelona, where he claimed the Champions League of 2015 as well as successive Primera Division titles. During his time at Camp Nou, he also claimed the Zamora Trophy, which is won by the goalkeeper with the best statistics over the course of the season.

In a career that began in 2002 with Colo Colo, he has also featured for Real Sociedad.

Meanwhile, City proved at the weekend that they can be every bit as effective even without De Bruyne, as they crushed Huddersfield 6-1 at home, including a hat-trick from Sergio Aguero.

Next up for Pep Guardiola‘s men is a trip to Wolves.
