Blake Griffin set basketball fans’ tongues wagging after being spotted working out with Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Russell Westbrook.
Griffin, 29, was traded to the Detroit Pistons from the Los Angeles Clippers last season in one of the most surprising moves of the year.
Less than six months earlier, the Clippers had convinced Griffin to sign a whopping five-year $173m contract extension to stay in Los Angeles.
But in January, team executives decided to cash in on the five-time All-Star, acquiring Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic, a future protected first-round draft pick and a future second-round draft pick to send Griffin to Detroit along with Willie Reed and Brice Johnson.
At the time, Griffin’s fit in Detroit was questioned by some NBA experts but a steady, if unspectacular, start to life in the Motor City appears to have silenced the doubters for now.
Regardless, the 29-year-old teased fans hoping for a potential homecoming in the future by heading back to his native Oklahoma City to work out with former MVP Westbrook.
In a two-minute video uploaded to YouTube last week, the pair work on their jump shots with their coaches before running the floor showcasing their impressive athleticism with some highlight-reel dunks.
The clip, which has been seen by almost 150,000 people, has gone viral since it was posted last week as fans pleaded for the pair to team up in Oklahoma.
“So, Blake to OKC in the next two years confirmed,” read one comment.
Another said: “Teammates in the future…”
“Blake to OKC confirmed. And Russ’ shot is wet. I can’t wait!” added a third.
