Stewie Hobgood remembers growing up watching the City Golf Tournament. He also remembers the feeling of coming in second places in the tournament just a couple of years ago. Those memories were certainly in the back of the North senior’s mind today as he sank his final putt on hole 18 to clinch this year’s title.
“I usually don’t show a lot of emotion but yea there is a lot with this one,” said Hobgood. “I let it get away from me two years ago. I didn’t want to do it again, so winning it is pretty nice.”
Hobgood finished the day with a two-stroke lead, finishing at eight-under. The day didn’t go on without drama, as Castle’s Adam Bratton, who entered the day seven strokes off the lead, would make a huge run today to cut the lead to two-strokes. Bratton finished second at 4-under and was just one stroke off the lead when Hobgood holed out to eagle on hole 17.
Last year’s winner Matthew Ladd (E) finished tied for third on the leaderboard with Spencer Wagner (E) and Isaac Rohleder (E).
