Other Sports: Carrollton’s Iwuji pleased by ‘clean run’ in NASCAR trucks debut

Jesse Iwuji, the Naval Academy graduate from Carrollton, placed 25th on Sunday in his first career start in NASCAR’s Camping World trucks series at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario.

Iwuji, in the No. 34 Chevrolet Silverado of Reaume Brothers Racing, improved by six spots on his starting position. He was running at the finish and came in two laps down to race-winner Justin Haley. A total of 32 trucks started the race.

“Small team, 20+ lap tires each pit stop but clean run,” Iwuji said on Twitter. “Thank you to God, my family, friends, RBR team, my fans and all of the great sponsors who put this together last second for me to do.”

Iwuji, 31, has also competed in NASCAR’s K&N Pro Series this season. When not racing, Iwuji serves as an officer in the United States Navy Reserve.
