Tiger Woods’ poor putting will be one of the biggest takeaways from the opening event of the 2018 FedEx Cup Playoffs, but he wasn’t the only player struggling on Ridgewood Country Club’s tricky A.W. Tillinghast greens. Things got so bad for Tyrrell Hatton at the Northern Trust that he went to a nearby Golf Galaxy after a Saturday 73 and bought a new putter. Pros really are just like us, huh?

Well, not really. When Jimmy from your weekend foursome makes an impulse buy like this, it doesn’t help his golf game. Hatton, on the other hand, put his new putter in the bag and promptly shot a Sunday 64 to match his low round on the PGA Tour this season. After a final round in which he gained nearly three strokes on the field on the greens (after losing a dismal 3.34 on Saturday), Hatton was happy to show off the receipt for his purchase:

It looks like the Ping-playing pro stayed true to his sponsor by buying a new Ping Sigma G Darby putter. We’re guessing he probably could have gotten one for free if he was patient, but there’s no time to waste in the playoffs!
Besides, that $149 plus tax was well worth it. After vaulting about 40 spots up the leader board on Sunday, Hatton is in position to take home a check for a lot more.
