Yakou Meite fires Reading into English League second round

The 22-year-old midfielder scored a first-half effort to help the Royals overcome Garry Monk’s men

Yakou Meite was on target in Reading’s 2-0 victory over Birmingham City in Tuesday’s English League Cup tie at the Madejski Stadium.

The Cote d’Ivoire midfielder scored in the 11th minute with a powerful strike after benefitting from Marc McNulty’s assist.

John Swift sealed the victory in the 72nd minute from a free-kick as Paul Clement’s men recorded their first win of the season after losing their previous two Championship games to Derby County and Nottingham Forest.

Meite who spent last season on loan with French side Sochaux will be looking to play a key role for the Royals this term.

Reading lock horns with Bolton Wanderers in their next league game on Saturday.
