England take on Switzerland on Tuesday evening in their final clash of the international break.
‘We talked a bit after the World Cup about the demands of the modern player’
Ahead of the clash, Gareth Southgate has been speaking about England and Tottenham’s star forward Harry Kane.
But Southgate admits that Kane is very tired from playing so many games and it does look as though he will be rested vs Switzerland.
“Harry falls into that category in which we have several players where we have to watch how much they play.
“We talked a bit after the World Cup about the demands of the modern player. Everybody has got to play a part in that but the clubs own the player and they have got to do the right thing for them.
“There aren’t many English strikers playing. There are obviously some older ones who have good goalscoring records at club level but I’m not sure that’s necessarily the route we want to go.
“A lot of these players coming in tomorrow have played zero minutes in the league. But for them and the right thing for us – for this season and beyond. Is to give them game time and to give them international matches. That’s the reason for doing it.
“We’re hopeful that a couple of the younger ones will start to get games and develop. I still have a lot of faith in the likes of (Dominic) Solanke in particular, who I think has been outstanding at every age level.”
England vs Switzerland
England come into this game off the back of a super World Cup, which saw them reach the semi-final for the first time since 1990.
However, England’s most recent game, this past Saturday, saw them lose 2-1 to Spain.
England did take the lead through Marcus Rashford in the 11th minute.
But goals from Saul and Rodrigo in the 13th and 32nd minute would see Spain come away with the win.
So, England will be hopeful of recapturing their good form as they take on Switzerland with what is likely to be a much-changed side.
