Dat guy Welbz scores again
Social media was full of praise for Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck this evening as he scored the winning goal against Sporting CP in the Europa League.
The Englishman has been down the pecking order at the Emirates for a while now but he continues to get games in cup competitions.
He has already scored two goals in the league cup, both coming against Brentford.
He also scored one goal against Vorskla in Arsenal’s last Europa League clash.
Finally, he has one goal in the Premier League where his appearances are much more limited.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, as expected, are the first choices for Unai Emery in the league and have both shown why.
The former has already scored 6 goals in the Premier League and a fair few of his performances have come off the bench.
Lacazette, meanwhile, has really found his feet in England.
He has scored 4 goals in the top flight since the top of the season but tonight is all about Danny Welbeck.
Welbeck saves the day in Lisbon
That is because his goal tonight secured what was a fairly important three points for Arsenal.
Before this clash, Sporting and Arsenal were joint top in their Europa League group.
They both had 6 points and tonight’s game was the perfect opportunity for either side to tighten their grip on top spot.
While it looked as though the points were going to be shared after a lacklustre affair, that all changed when Danny Welbeck netted in the 77th minute.
Sebastián Coates was unable to adequately control a pass back, with the former Liverpool man losing out to Welbeck.
The Englishman was then in on goal and finished well past the Sporting goalkeeper.
