Boys tennis: Union, Mountain View doubles win bi-district titles

Union and Mountain View doubles teams came away with bi-district boys tennis titles on the final day of the fall season. Players who clinched berths to state now wait until May for a chance at state titles.

Here’s a recap of Saturday’s bi-district tennis results:

4A bi-district — Skyview’s doubles team of Joey Gaylor and Sean Wilcox booked a spot to state by placing sixth at the tournament in Kent.

Already having clinched a state spot, Skyview’s Jonathan Hutley placed third with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in his final match over Union’s Naman Thawani in a rematch of the 4A district final.

Union’s doubles team of Kyle Mosier and Jake Flentke won the bi-district, also in a rematch of the 4A district final over Akash Prasad and Jake Gianan of Camas.

Union finished tied for first in the team standings with Kentridge. Skyview was fourth and Camas fifth.

3A bi-district — Mountain View’s Vincent Hsu and James Bertheau won the doubles title with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at Tacoma, and the Thunder finished second as team.

Prairie’s Elijah Nelson finished second in singles, falling to Irvin Yi of Gig Harbor 6-0, 6-2.

All these players, along with Manny Fernandez of Hudson’s Bay, had already clinched state berths.
