In a recent incident, Justice (retd) AB Pal who is officiating as the court-appointed administrator of TCA, questioned Bhowmik’s status and advised him not to interfere in the association’s activities.
This prompted Bhowmik to file a defamation suit of Rs 1 lakh at the Tripura Lower Court on September 26 against Pal for labelling him a fraud.
Bhowmik, who has been working with TCA as a curator since 1997 without any remuneration or official post, recently visited one of TCA’s grounds and mailed certain suggestions regarding how to improve the facilities. This prompted the administrator to shoot off a letter to him wherein he raised questions about his identity and status as he is not on the TCA rolls. Instead of accepting the suggestions, Pal wrote: “Your visit without our knowledge and permission is viewed as unauthorized and suggestions uncalled for.”
“If you really represent the BCCI in any capacity, even then you have no right to visit our ground without our knowledge and permission,” he added.
Refusing to take cognizance of a 2017 TCA order, where Bhowmik’s role as TCA chief curator is clearly mentioned, Pal continues to insist that he has no knowledge about Bhowmik and BCCI has not informed anything about his status to him. Pal has also maintained that as Bhowmik holds no post in TCA, nor is he on their rolls, the curator needs to establish his identity and seek permission before entering any TCA facility.
TCA is reportedly set to appoint Suresh Sarkar, who is not a BCCI-recognised curator, as their chief curator.
Bhowmik, who has recently been appointed as a member in BCCI’s Task Force to develop cricket grounds in new areas, however, preferred not to comment anything on the matter as it is sub-judice.
