Effingham St. Anthony’s Mossman falls in quarterfinals at state tennis tournament | High School Tennis

CHICAGO — Effingham St. Anthony’s Emilee Mossman’s run at the Class 1A state tennis tournament ran into a snag in the championship quarterfinals on Friday, but she’ll still alive for a top=eight finish.

Mossman lost to No. 3-4-seeded Claudia Miller 6-3, 6-0 in the championship quarterfinal round. Mossman was seeded No. 5-8 in the tournament pairings. 

Her sister, Diana Mossman from Teutopolis, won in the third round consolation bracket 6-1, 6-4 against Claudia Bilkey from Vernon Hills. She’ll take on Maple Park Kaneland’s Madelyn Jurasek in the consolation fourth round. If she wins that match and the next one, she’d face Emilee in the consolation sixth round.

In other local results, Newton’s Jacelyn Street won her consolation third round match against Kelsie Ayers of Bloomington High School. She will play Lily Schoeck from Rock Island Alleman on Saturday. 

On the doubles side, Effingham’s Chloe Funneman & Lauryn Douthit lost to Hannah Riegle & Medha Venigalla from Chatham Glenwood 6-4, 6-0 in the fourth round of consolation play. 

In the third round of consolation play, Kyrsten Darrough & Gracy Himelick from Flora lost to Bailey Grigg & Molly Suess from Troy Triad d. 7-5, 7-6 (6).

Play continues for the Class 1A singles consolation matches Saturday at 8 a.m. at Hoffman Estates.
