Hickory finishes tied for third at Class 5 state golf tournament | 757Teamz Golf

Deep Run continued its domination of the Class 5 state golf tournament on Monday, cruising to a fourth consecutive title at Magnolia Green Golf Club near Richmond.

Deep Run has won five of the past six state titles and finished Monday’s one-round tournament with a 395 team score.

Rock Ridge (314) finished second, followed by Hickory and Ablemarle in a tie for third at 323.

Hickory’s Patrick Gareiss – the Region A medalist last week – finished fourth overall with a 1-under-par 72.

Tuscarora’s Michael Brennan carded a 5-under 68 to win the individual title. Mills Godwin’s Charlie Kennedy (69) and Albemarle’s Jack Bruns (71) finished second and third, respectively.

Deep Run had five golfers finish among the top 10 led by Charlie Hanson in fifth at 73. Only four scores count toward team scores, but the Wildcats’ had four golfers tied for sixth at 74: Trent Sveum, Zach Smith, Brint Harbison and Ian Walters.

Hickory’s Luke Gareiss and Kempsville’s Ryan Oden tied for 13th at 77.
