NBA news: Is this the big clue Kawhi Leonard will NOT join the Lakers? | Other | Sport

The San Antonio Spurs traded Leonard and Green to the Raptors for DeMar DeRozan, Joel Poeltl and a first-round pick.

However, Leonard has a player option in his current contract, meaning he can become a free agent next summer.

The two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year has been linked with the Los Angeles Lakers – and the Clippers – with Leonard supposedly keen to head to LA.

However, Green says Leonard is at home in Toronto, adding the small forward has been more vocal than ever before.

“He’s definitely more vocal than he’s ever been, on and off the court,” Green said.

“It looks like he feels comfortable. It looks like he feels at home.

“He’s talking to guys, he’s leading by example.

“In the huddles he’s chiming in, saying what he feels, saying his opinion.

“Before he didn’t really show or tell his opinion much… he’s leading vocally more than ever before.”

Leonard has impressed for the Raptors in preseason, with the forward averaging 14.5 points per game on 45 per cent from the floor.

And Green reckons Leonard is more than happy to have a leadership role in Toronto.

“It’s also a comfort thing maybe. It’s a different system, new identity,” Green added.

“He’s older here. There’s a lot of young guys that look up to him and respect him.

“You’ll have to ask him, he probably has other feelings about it but I would think it’s comfort level and him being [one of] the older vets in here.

“He’s not that old but he’s a veteran here so he kind of has to lead by example and vocally.”

Leonard and the Raptors kick off their NBA season next week against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
