PINE VALLEY, N.Y. (October 7, 2018) – Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team defeated Elmira College on Sunday 9-0 in an Empire 8 Conference match-up on the MAC Tennis Courts. The Ducks move to 8-1 and close the regular season on a six-match win streak. The Soaring Eagles finish 1-11 on the season and 1-7 in the Empire 8.
The women’s tennis team put together an impressive team performance starting with a sweep of the doubles flights. Junior Isabella Calandra and freshman Agatha Malinowski recorded an 8-0 win in the first singles flight to put the first point on the board. Senior Sydney Zoretic and freshman Alexis Fuda followed suit by recording an 8-0 win in the third doubles position. Senior Julia Earl and sophomore Makenna Sargis completed the sweep with an 8-1 win the second doubles flight.
Earl and Fuda recorded straight set wins in their respective singles flights to seal the win for the Ducks. Malinowski, Zoretic, and Sargis all posted convincing straight set wins. The trio did not drop a single game in their singles flights. Calandra was in a tight match in the third singles position against Katy Jewett. The Montclair, N.J. native won in three sets keeping the Soaring Eagles off the scoreboard and allowing the Ducks to post their second clean match sheet of the weekend.
Up Next: Stevens Institute of Technology women’s tennis team will host the Empire 8 Conference Championships October 12th and 13th on the Stevens Tennis Courts. Semifinal action will start at 12:00 P.M.
