Jose Mourinho has this evening provided a fitness update on Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.
United’s tough week
Mourinho’s Red Devils are preparing for a crucial 5-day stretch, ahead of matchups with the champions of both Italy and England, Juventus and Manchester City respectively.
United first travel to Turin tomorrow night for their second meeting with Juve in the space of two weeks.
The first clash between the sides on the 23rd of October saw the Bianconeri emerge with all 3 points in an utterly dominant performance at Old Trafford, courtesy of a Paulo Dybala strike.
As such, with United sitting just 2 points clear of Valencia in the Group H table as things stand, a positive result for the Premier League outfit could prove crucial in Turin.
And, with just 4 days to recover, the Red Devils will then travel to the Etihad for another crunch fixture, in the Manchester derby versus City.
‘We don’t know’
However, as per an update from Jose Mourinho this evening, his side may well have to make do without the services of a key figure for both fixtures.
The player in question is hitman Romelu Lukaku, who missed United’s clash with Bournemouth at the weekend through injury.
Speaking following his side’s 2-1 win at the Vitality, Mourinho had the following to say regarding Lukaku’s problem:
‘We have to wait for tomorrow, wait until Monday.’
‘He needs these couple of days. It was something in training. We don’t know, muscle, tendon… we have to wait a little bit.’
And, speaking in a pre-match press conference in Italy this evening, Mourinho provided a further update on Lukaku’s fitness.
After confirming that the Belgian will miss United’s meeting with Juventus, he also labelled Lukaku a doubt to take part in this weekend’s Manchester derby:
‘He is injured. Injured for tomorrow and we don’t know for Sunday.’
