WICKET: Moeen gets the first wicket of the morning. Pushpakumara has been looking to break free and Joe Root saw it coming. He stationed a man at mid-wicket and Pushpakumara obliged instantly. Tame wicket. Here comes Dhananjaya de Silva.

England lose a review: Leach goes up in an lbw appeal against Karunaratne which the on-field umpire turns down after much thought. England review almost instantly but the ball-tracking finds it to be just about evading the leg-stump.

Alright then, all set for action to begin on Day 2.

Sri Lanka to resume from 26/1 on Day 2. Here’s out Day 1 report.

England, despite being 89 for 4 at one stage – having opted to bat first on a track assisting spinners from the word go – managed to finish with 285, thanks to attacking and yet contrasting half-centuries from Jos Buttler and Sam Curran. At the end of the day, Sri Lanka has 12 overs to survive but Jack Leach removed Kushal Silva to give England Day 1 honours.

Welcome back! We’re here with the live blog of Day 2 of the second Test between hosts Sri Lanka and England at the Pallekele.
