Marvin Lewis hints at A.J. Green return vs. Browns – NFL Nation

CINCINNATI — All signs are pointing up for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green to play against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday after Marvin Lewis hinted at a return this week.

Green has not played since sustaining a toe injury late in a win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 28. Although he avoided surgery on the toe, he did need a walking boot and missed the next two games. Green progressed to doing rehab work on the side of the field by last Friday. He did not go through a pregame warm-up last Sunday and was inactive after being listed as doubtful.

“It’s just irritation and his ability to extend. He’ll be extending this week,” Lewis said with a smile.

When asked if that meant Green was playing on Sunday, Lewis didn’t bite.

“I didn’t say he was going to play, I said he was going to be extending,” he said.

Lewis said Green wouldn’t practice on Wednesday but was expected to practice the rest of the week.

“A.J. has worked hard and is ready to get back to work,” he said. “If he feels good enough to go and we judge him good to go by our eyes, he’ll be good to go.”

The Bengals could certainly use him. The team desperately needs its best playmaker back after failing to put up points in back-to-back drives at the end of a loss to the Baltimore Ravens last week. Green is second on the team in receiving yards and still leads the Bengals with six receiving touchdowns despite his missed games.

“We want him out there all the time,” quarterback Andy Dalton said. “It would be nice to get him back, but we’ll see how it goes. I’ll definitely welcome him back pretty easily.”
