Jose Mourinho vs the pundits
Jose Mourinho took on his TV enemies after Man United beat Young Boys 1-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Marouane Fellaini’s late winner for United ensure their passage into the next round of the competition.
But were the pundits happy with Man United’s result? No, of course not.
The Young Boys match was like many other Man United games this season. Uninspiring, turgid and forgettable.
The sparked the usual backlash from those paid to offer opinions on TV.

Gary Lineker & Rio Ferdinand
Mourinho attracted criticism from Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand after the United manager reacted badly to a Marcus Rashford miss. Lineker said:
If I saw my manager react like that, I would be absolutely livid.
Turn to the crowd and your own bench and shake your head in disgust at one of your own players, let alone a youngster. You just don’t do that as a coach.
Rio Ferdinand also took aim at Mourinho:
Rashford’s going to see that after the game. What kind of message of confidence does that send to him?

Paul Scholes joins the criticism
One of the most vocal critics of Man United this season has been Paul Scholes.
Scholes had the following to say after the Young Boys match:
I thought they were awful tonight. I thought they were terrible, the second half especially.

Man United boss hits back
One suspects that Jose Mourinho didn’t even hear the backlash from the pundits before he hit back after the game.
Mourinho slammed those talking heads who have never been managers themselves:
I would invite those people to sit on the bench as managers.
But I think maybe it’s better to have lots of holidays in Barbados and go to the television screens and touch the electronic dummies. This is much more comfortable than being on the touchline like we managers are.
I’m pretty sure a proper manager would never criticise another one for emotional reactions on the touchline because it’s déjà vu for them. For the ones that have a nice life, it’s different.
