NBA news: Lakers ace Lonzo Ball is struggling for THIS reason – pundit | Other | Sport

That is according to NBA expert Juliet Litman.

Ball has had an indifferent start to the regular season, as he continues to recover from last season’s year-ending injury.

After surgery in the off-season, Ball was tipped to be one of the stars to watch for the Lakers this year, and even Lakers new boy LeBron James was singing his praises.

However, after the signing of Rajon Rondo, Ball has found game time hard to come by, and has played a lower-than-expected number of minutes.

Litman explained that part of the problem is that the point guard is yet to find his full place in the team.

“The problem with Lonzo is, what kind of player does he want to be? And what type of player do they want him to be?” she explained.

“When he’s shooting, you remember that he was supposed to be a great shooter, that’s exciting

“Then sometimes he’s great on defence.

“But he doesn’t have a clear identity on court yet.

“And I think that makes him hard to use because he doesn’t have that identity yet.”

Litman pointed out that the issue is not specific to Ball, and stated that the young team is also suffering.

“It’s true for all of them,” she added.

“[Kyle] Kuzma has been the best, so far, because he has a clear identity to the team.”

The Lakers are 4-6 after the first ten games, and head coach Luke Walton is under pressure.

Walton reportedly was subject to a berating by Lakers President of basketball operations Magic Johnson.

Johnson however stated that he would not fire Walton “unless something drastic happens.”
