Week 9 of the NFL season promises some of the most compelling action so far and scoring a big payday will require some savvy picks. That’s why you’ll want to see legendary handicapper Hammerin’ Hank Goldberg’s best bets on a weekly basis. Goldberg spent 17 years at ESPN and put together an incredible 15 winning seasons. He also won the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s NFL Challenge last year with an impressive 50-29-6 record. He knows the NFL inside and out and is extremely well-connected. Now, his Week 9 NFL picks are in and he’s sharing them over at SportsLine.
Last week, Hammer told his followers to back New Orleans in a pick’em game at Minnesota, calling it a “big revenge spot” and noting the Saints had covered 17 of their previous 22 road games. The result: New Orleans cruised to a 30-20 win. Anyone who followed his advice capped off their Sunday with a big win.
For NFL Week 9, Hammer has three best bets, and parlaying them would pay out at 6-1. One key part we can tell you: Goldberg loves the Panthers laying six points against the visiting Buccaneers. Carolina is unbeaten at home and covered three of its four games at Bank of America Stadium.
Despite Ryan Fitzpatrick’s scintillating performance in relief of Jameis Winston last week at Cincinnati, when he led the Bucs on an 18-point comeback, Hammer says the “Fitzmagic” won’t continue against a Carolina defense that just frustrated Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco into two interceptions in a 36-21 mauling.
On the other side, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (17 TDs, 4 turnovers) should feast on an abominable Bucs defense. “Tampa’s defense is horrible, giving up an NFL-high 33.3 points per game, and I don’t trust Fitzmagic to do his thing against Carolina’s defense,” Hammer told SportsLine. The Bucs are being gashed for 318 yards through the air, second-most in the NFL, and in their last four losses, they’ve been lit up for over 37 points per game.
Goldberg also is backing an under-the-radar team that oddsmakers keep disrespecting. The line on that game is wrong, Goldberg says, so it’s a must-play for any NFL parlay.
So what are the three best bets Hammer is confident will return a huge 6-1 payout in Week 9?
