Foligno to miss Blue Jackets game against Senators

Nick Foligno will miss the Columbus Blue Jackets game against the Ottawa Senators on Monday (7 p.m. ET; FS-O, RDS2, TSN5, NHL.TV) to be with his daughter Milana, who is scheduled to have surgery in Boston.

Foligno will return to the team as soon as possible, the Blue Jackets said Sunday.

Milana was born with a heart defect that was repaired weeks after her birth. The Blue Jackets did not say if this surgery is related. Foligno also missed a game Nov. 17 against the Carolina Hurricanes when his daughter was hospitalized with a virus.

Foligno has 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 37 games this season for Columbus (22-13-3), which is second in the Metropolitan Division. He has been captain of the Blue Jackets since May 20, 2015.

“We have so many great leaders in our room right now but the one guy who steps up is Foligno,” forward Josh Anderson said. “He lets us know when we’re not playing good, or are playing good.”
