Jakub Voracek scored, and Anthony Stolarz made 18 saves for Philadelphia (12-14-4), which has lost three straight (0-2-1).

“I thought we got off to a slow start but Mikko did a great job of keeping us in it while we got our legs going,” McDavid said. “Once we found our game, we were able to score a couple. I thought late in the game they kind of took it to us and he was great again, and we found a way to hold on.”

The Oilers were playing the second game of a back-to-back. They lost 5-4 in overtime at the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. Edmonton is 8-1-1 in its past 10 games.

“You could see the one team that had the day’s rest, but I thought our energy got better and better as it went on,” Hitchcock said. “We knew that was going to happen, it kind of works in reverse. I think the concern I had wasn’t back to back, it was eight games in 14 nights. That’s a lot of hockey. That’s almost unheard of, and that to me was the bigger worry, when are we going to hit the wall? And we didn’t hit the wall, so that’s a good sign.”

The Flyers were 0-for-5 on the power play, including a four-minute advantage at 3:25 of the second period on a double minor for high sticking on Oilers forward Drake Caggiula.

“It’s tired to keep saying that maybe we didn’t play that bad, but we deserve better,” Voracek said. “We scored just one goal again and we had a lot of [power play] opportunities and we couldn’t generate anything. It’s tough.”

Chiasson scored at 12:37 of the first period to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead, converting from the slot on a pass from Draisaitl. It was Chiasson’s NHL career-high 14th goal this season.

“I feel like I’ve earned the trust of the coaching staff,” Chiasson said. “When things aren’t going as good as they should be I’m still getting the chance to go back out there. That’s what every player is looking for.”

McDavid made it 2-0 at 12:37 of the second period. He collected a rebound behind the goal line to the left of the net and banked a shot off Stolarz. McDavid has 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in the streak.

Larsson scored at 14:08 to make 3-0 with his first goal of the season. He took a pass from Ryan Spooner at the right face-off circle and shot the puck through traffic. It ended a 43-game goalless drought dating to March 17.

“The opportunity to have a turning point in our favor was the four minutes early in the second,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. “And not only did we not generate a goal, but we didn’t generate a lot of momentum off that power play.”

Voracek cut it to 3-1 at 10:03 of the third period, taking a pass from Claude Giroux in the high slot and scoring on a one-timer.

“I think we started great and we had chances, but they were able to get one goal,” Giroux said. “We weren’t playing bad hockey, just a couple of mistakes here and there and it’s in the back of the net and you’re chasing again.”

McDavid scored into an empty net at 19:24 for the 4-1 final.
