The Sixers will be looking to return to form after being on the wrong side of a Peter Handscomb masterclass the other night as it looks to return to 2-2 for the season.

Philippe holes out

Josh Philippe increased the run rate in his short stint, hitting 20 off 13.

But he went for one hit too many, chipping down the ground into the hands of Dan Christian.

Jordan Silk followed soon after with a ball toed straight back to Kane Richardson.

Sixers crash in power play carnage

The Sydney Sixers entered the match with high hopes but the power play has caused havoc.

Wickets in the power play have been the Sixers’ achilles heel so far this BBL campaign.

Althought they won on the back of a big partnership between Daniel Hughes and Jordan Silk in the first game against the Perth Scorchers, the Sixers’ were 3/39, before falling 3/33 against the Thunder and 2/42 against the Stars in the first six overs.

After six overs against the Renegades, the Sixers were 3/25 with Fox Cricket commentator Mark Waugh suggesting the Sydneysiders look at 130 as par score.

Before the match, 160 was the target.

Joe Denly was the latest to fall with a loft over the top that fell into the hands of Dan Christian.

Earlier, Daniel Hughes slammed a incredible sounding shot for four, pulling Jack Wildermuth for four.

Moving to 6 off 10 balls, Hughes looked like he was about to take off but a mistimed shot was gobbled up by Mackenzie Harvey on debut.

But Moises Henriques have steadied the ship after 11 overs with a 37-run partnership before Moises Henriques (20 off 20 balls) hit a slower ball onto his stumps as the Sixers struggle to 4/63.

Edwards sent packing

Jack Edwards has lost his wicket early with his stump bent back by Usman Shinwari.

The 18-year-old has struggled in the BBL with scores of 13, 9, 4 and 5 so far.

Renegades win toss and bowl

Tom Cooper won the toss and unsurprisingly sent the Sixers in.

It’s become a trend for the winning team to field first.

The Renegades have also handed a debut to young opener Mackenzie Harvey.

Bancroft back in BBL

Cameron Bancroft will return to the sport he loves as a better person, but will it help him become a better cricketer?

Bancroft’s nine-month ban for ball tampering officially ended on Saturday, and he’ll make his highly-anticipated return for the Perth Scorchers in Sunday’s BBL clash with the Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston.

The 26-year-old used his time away from the game to immerse himself in yoga, dabble in Spanish, and also learn about Cameron Bancroft the person. Bancroft was ordered to do 100 hours of community service as part of his punishment.

The right-hander did more than double that as his empathy for others grew. But the ball tampering scandal still remains a hot topic, with the issue rearing again on Boxing Day following the airing of Bancroft’s tell-all interview with Adam Gilchrist.

Bancroft revealed during the interview that David Warner was the one who told him to use sandpaper on the ball.

Warner and former captain Steve Smith still have three more months to serve on their bans, and it remains to be seen how they will be reintegrated back into the Test side.

Bancroft’s path back to the national set-up begins now, with the opener keen to hit the ground running.

“What a journey this has been over the last 9 months,” Bancroft wrote alongside one of his Instagram posts, revealing he struggled for motivation to get out of bed at times.

“After thinking, reading, wondering and living it came to me that I had a choice. To lay in suffering or get up, show up and act. Action led to motivation and motivation gave me all the inspiration I needed.

“Here I am now. Grateful of where I am and the person I continue to grow to be.”

The sixth-placed Scorchers (1-2) will be without wicketkeeper/batsman Josh Inglis, who has been ruled out for four weeks with a foot injury. But his loss has been offset by the return of Sam Whiteman from illness. The undefeated Hurricanes (3-0) have named an unchanged squad from the team that beat Sydney Thunder by seven wickets.
