Mohamed Salah named BBC’s African Footballer of the Year

Mo Salah making history yet again

Liverpool’s Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has been named BBC’s African Footballer of the Year for the second time in a row.

The forward was absolutely brilliant last season and broke several records as Liverpool impressed in the Premier League and made it all the way to the Champions League final.

It was a different story at the start of this season, however, as he struggled to recapture the form he had previously shown.

In the end, it was just a case of being patient and Salah is well and truly back to his best now.

He scored a hat-trick in his last Premier League game against Bournemouth and scored an incredibly important goal against Napoli in midweek.

All that combined, Salah has now been named BBC’s African Footballer of the Year for 2018.

Going for the hat-trick next year?

After winning this year, Salah has now become the first player to win the award back to back since Jay-Jay Okocha.

Speaking on the award, it’s safe to say that he was pretty happy!

“It’s a great feeling to win again. I’m happy and I would like to win it also next year!” explained Salah to the BBC. 

“There have been many good moments in 2018.

“The game against Roma at Anfield [Champions League semi-final first leg] was unbelievable.

“I’m scoring goals and helping the team to get the points to be top of the league. That’s always a great feeling.

“I try to push myself every day to help the team win something.”

Salah also went on to explain that his aim next year is “to win something with the club so everyone is excited”.

If Salah is to win the award a third time next year, he needs to continue his fine form.

Salah and Liverpool will come up against Manchester United in their next game this weekend.
