Reds unlikely to pursue Patrick Corbin

The Reds don’t appear to be among the finalists to sign top free-agent starting pitcher Patrick Corbin.

If the Reds are disappointed, they aren’t showing it. They’re too busy pursuing other alternatives. One possibility: Cincinnati is interested in acquiring Corey Kluber or Trevor Bauer from the Indians in an intrastate blockbuster, sources said Tuesday.

The Indians also have spoken with the Dodgers about a trade for Kluber or Bauer, and MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported that the Mets have shown interest in Kluber as well.

The Reds have also remained in trade talks with the Yankees about a trade for right-hander Sonny Gray while continuing dialogue with free agents Dallas Keuchel and J.A. Happ, sources say.

The Reds have competition within their division to acquire Gray, as the Brewers also have interest in him, one source confirmed. Sources also say that the Braves have spoken with the Yankees about Gray to gauge the asking price, but that there is no current progress on a trade with Atlanta.

Reds starters combined for a 5.02 ERA this year, second worst in the National League.
