As per a report from Sky Sports News, Arsenal and Manchester City are both expressing an interest in Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
Everton’s midfield enforcer
Gueye, a 29-year-old defensive midfielder, has been plying his trade at Goodison Park since 2016.
The Toffees snapped up the Senegalese international for a fee of just £7.1 million, after Aston Villa’s relegation to the Championship triggered a release clause in Gueye’s contract.
And the former Lille man has since gone on to establish himself as a near ever-present for Everton.
Gueye started in 32 of the Toffees’ 38 Premier League outings both last season and during the 2016/17 campaign.
And he has since gone on to play a pivotal role at the base of Marco Silva’s midfield once more to this point in the current season, with Gueye’s ability to snuff out opposing attacks with either a crunching tackle or well-timed interception making him one of the Merseysiders’ most-important players.
All told, the African has started in 19 of Everton’s 24 Premier League outings this season.
PSG interest
However, despite his crucial role in the Toffees’ midfield ranks, Gueye has nevertheless been heavily-linked with a move away from Goodison Park this month.
Ligue 1 giants PSG have long been rumoured to be expressing an interest in the former Lille man’s signature.
To this point, though, Everton have firmly knocked back the interest of the French giants.
Arsenal & Man City enter the fray
But, as per the aforementioned update from Sky Sports News tonight, the Merseysiders look set to have their resolve further tested before the close of the January transfer window on Thursday.
This is due to the apparent emergence of both Arsenal and Manchester City as contenders for Gueye’s signature:
