Tim Howard will retire at the end of the 2019 MLS season
Former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has announced he will retire at the end of the 2019 MLS season.
The 39 year old is currently preparing for the new campaign with the Colorado Rapids, who finished second bottom of the Western Conference in 2018.
Howard revealed his retirement on Twitter, saying: “I’m greatly looking forward to kicking off the 2019 MLS season, as it will be my LAST.
Howard moved to Manchester United in 2003, and later to Everton in 2006
“There will be plenty of time for sentiment later. For now, I am going to enjoy every minute. And as I’ve always done, compete hard and help lead the Rapids with the sole purpose of winning.”
Howard played in 399 Premier League matches for Everton and United during a 13-year spell in England.
He also won 121 caps for the USA and played in two World Cups for his country.
Howard won the FA Cup and League Cup during his time at Old Trafford, as well as lifting two Gold Cups with the US.
Colorado begin their 2019 MLS campaign in March, and host 2018 runners-up the Portland Timbers on the opening day.
