As per a report from Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle United have secured the signing of Lazio defender Jordan Lukaku on loan for the remainder of the season.
Lazio stint
Lukaku, a 24-year-old left-back who can also play on the wing, has been plying his trade with Lazio since the summer of 2016.
The stopper, brother of Manchester United striker Romelu, is widely-recognised for his attacking abilities, with Lukaku’s pace, power and ability to ghost past defenders making him a tough customer to match up against for opposing full-backs.
After largely struggling for game-time during his debut campaign with Lazio, Lukaku went on to rack up an impressive 30 Serie A appearances last season, playing an important role in the squad of Simone Inzaghi. However, significantly, just 10 of these appearances came as starts.
And the Belgian, capped 7 times by his country, has since continued to struggle to carve out a regular starting berth for himself to this point in the current campaign.
A knee problem picked up by Lukaku during the summer subsequently saw him miss the opening 2 months of the season.
And, since his return, the Anderlecht youth product has gone on to start just 1 league fixture for the Biancocelesti.
Newcastle bound
As such, news that Lukaku looks set to depart the Stadio Olimpico over the coming days has come as little surprise.
As per the aforementioned report from the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, the stopper is all set for a move to Premier League outfit Newcastle United.
In fact, the deal is labelled as ‘done’, with Lukaku set to join the Magpies on loan for the remainder of the campaign, with an option to make his move to St. James’ Park permanent in the summer:
