The Rangers appear to be adding to their bullpen, as a source told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand that the club has reached an agreement with free-agent reliever Shawn Kelley on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million. The deal, which the club has not confirmed, includes a club option for 2020 worth $2.5 million or a $250,000 buyout, guaranteeing Kelley $2.75 million. Feinsand reports that Kelley has passed his physical to join the Rangers.
Kelley, 34, is coming off a bounce-back 2018 season in which he posted a 2.94 ERA — including a 2.16 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP after he was traded from the Nationals to the A’s in early August. The right-hander owns a 3.67 ERA and a 10.3 strikeout-per-nine innings average over the span of his 10-year career with the Mariners, Yankees, Padres, Nationals and A’s.

Kelley would join a retooled Rangers pitching staff, which includes fellow offseason acquisitions Lance Lynn, Drew Smyly, Edinson Volquez and Jesse Chavez.
