When does the 2018-19 NHL season start? Opening games, schedule for 31 teams | NHL

If you haven’t already begun counting down the days until the 2018-19 NHL regular season, it’s time to get on it.

Training camps around the league open the second weekend of September. The first preseason game is Sept. 15. And then, without further ado, John Tavares and the Maple Leafs officially drop the puck on a new year in hockey Oct. 3 against the Canadiens (7 p.m. ET, Sportsnet). And a half-hour later, the Capitals will raise their first Stanley Cup banner to the rafters in front of the Bruins (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN).

For the West Coast (or an Easterner’s late-night entertainment), it’s Flames vs. Canucks (10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet) and Sharks vs. Ducks (10:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN).

The intrigue continues beyond opening night into the season’s first weekend. The Golden Knights, with a Western Conference title in hand, open their second season in Vegas against the Flyers on Thursday (10 p.m. ET, NBCSN). And the NHL invades Sweden on Saturday with a Global Series game featuring the Oilers and Devils (1 p.m. ET).
