Why Amanda Anisimova could be the future of US women’s tennis

There are many expectations on Amanda Anisimova. The young American player will turn 18 on 31st August, but she has already played a final in the WTA Tour: the Japan Women’s Open Tennis in 2018, lost against Hsieh Su-wei in straight sets.

Also, we must not forget that, starting as a wild-card, she reached the quarter-finals of Indian Wells, last year, beating among others, opponents like Petra Kvitova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Her tennis has yet to improve a lot, both in advancing progress and in the net game.

Her return of serve is already a good weapon, but that the American still has to refine it. As well as the backhand, overall solid, but still very improvable. However, her innate talent and her excellent results make us hope about the future of American tennis.

Many are trying to take the baton from Serena Williams. If, in the near future the star will be Sloane Stephens, in the long run the hopes are all for Amanda Anisimova. To say that she is the future of American tennis can be risky, but the young player has extraordinary qualities.

Not only from the technical point of view, but also from the point of view of grit and mental solidity. Now, she needs to learn how to handle pressure in the most important moments, especially considering the pressure she will have on her shoulders.

Meanwhile in Brisbane, she reached the quarter-finals, losing to Viktoria Kuzmova. But for her the first important test will be the Australian Open. In Melbourne, we will understand more about her real ambitions and her enormous potential, still partially unexpressed.
