Spring training marks the beginning of the Astros run to another title. Carlos Correa, Jose Altuve and George Springer are three of 61 players spending the next few weeks in West Palm Beach.
It’s the Astros third season at Fitteam Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. The guys will play 27 full squad games and three split squad games before Opening Day.
Every year spring training is a major production. Just getting everything to Florida is an MVP level feat: 150 batting helmets are shipped, along with 250 jerseys, 300 Astros caps, and 1,000 pairs of baseball pants.
Getting all those uniforms cleaned during spring training takes 2,000 pounds of laundry detergent.
The Astros shipped out 200 cases of sunflower seeds for the players and 300 cartons of bubble gum.
You can’t play America’s favorite pastime without baseballs. The Astros use 700 dozen of them. Do the math. that’s 8,400 baseballs.
The Astros don’t go anywhere without their trusted mascot. Crews sent 1 case of silly string and a four wheel ATV to Florida just for orbit to use. Opening day now is just 42 days away.
