Guendouzi singled out for special praise despite Arsenal’s loss at Man City

Arsenal’s supporters have this evening highlighted Matteo Guendouzi’s performance at Manchester City as reason for positivity, despite their side’s defeat.

Arsenal’s trip to Manchester

The Gunners travelled to the Etihad this evening, for the final of the day’s Premier League fixtures.

Unai Emery’s men were no doubt desperate for a positive result at the home of the champions, after being ousted from the Premier League’s top-4 by Chelsea yesterday, before being pushed into 6th-place by Manchester United this afternoon.

Aguero makes the difference

However, in the end, Arsenal came away from City empty-handed, after being torn apart by Citizens’ hitman Sergio Aguero.

Argentinian international Aguero opened the game’s scoring with less than a minute on the clock, when a moment of madness from Alex Iwobi on the edge of the away side’s box saw Aymeric Laporte dispossess the Nigerian, before setting Aguero up with a pinpoint cross from the left.

Arsenal, to their credit, pulled level 10 minutes later, though, when Nacho Monreal’s front-post flick from a Lucas Torreira corner was nodded home by Laurent Koscielny.

Aguero was back at it again on the stroke of half-time, however, when a sumptuous one-two between Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling saw the latter’s volleyed cross present the City talisman with a tap-in.

And, incredibly, Aguero went on to bag his hat-trick just past the hour-mark, when yet another burst down the Arsenal right saw Sterling’s driven cross bundled home via a combination of the South American’s midriff and left arm.

Guendouzi stands tall

After a solid first-half showing, Arsenal, in truth, never looked in contention following the interval, with the Gunners having essentially been outplayed in every area of the park over the course of the second-half.

However, on a disappointing day all-round for the North Londoners, fans of the club have nevertheless found a reason to take at least one positive away from their side’s showing at the Etihad.

And this consolation comes in the form of the performance of Matteo Guendouzi.

The 19-year-old proved a shining light in the middle of the park throughout proceedings in Manchester, with Guendouzi’s composure and drive when in possession, and discipline when out of it, having belied a player of his tender years.

‘Build the team around Guendouzi’

As such, the Arsenal faifhtul have since taken to Twitter in numbers to showcase their appreciation for their side’s midfield general, with some of the highlights showcased below:
