Miami football potentially eyeing another DL Transfer

Iowa defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon who redshirted in 2018 could be considering the Miami football program after adding his name to the transfer portal.

Christopher Stock of Inside the U was the first to break the news about the potential of the Miami football program adding defensive tackle Daviyon Nixon. Nixon redshirted last season after attending Iowa Western Junior College as a True Freshman in 2017. He joined Iowa for the Spring semester in 2018.

Miami needs depth at defensive tackle, especially after 2019. The Hurricanes added UCLA Graduate Transfer Chigozie Nnoruka and Freshmen Jason Blisset, Jalar Holley and Jared Harrison-Hunte for 2019. Nnoruka and Rising Senior Pat Bethel will move on following the 2019 season.

Nixon was ranked coming out of Junior College the 46th best JUCO player overall and the 12th best defensive tackle in the Class of 2018 by 247 Sports. According to Stock, Nixon is interested in Miami, but there has been no information if the interest is mutual.

The commitment of former UCLA defensive end/linebacker Jaelan Phillips on Thursday night was the Hurricanes eighth signee from the transfer portal in the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Miami added offensive tackle Tommy Kennedy from Butler and running back Asa Martin from Auburn during the early National Signing Period in December.

The Miami football program has added six additional players since Manny Diaz was hired on December 30 to replace Mark Richt has Head Coach. Diaz has frequented used Twitter to foreshadow the Hurricanes newest transfer to come to Miami.

Nixon’s Twitter account doesn’t indicate any of his interest. Nixon has not updated his Twitter Account since October. Nixon’s Instagram account has not been updated since December and did not have any posts indicating his decision to transfer or that he could be interested in Miami.

Diaz has repeatedly spoken during his eight weeks as the Miami Head Coach that they are not going to panic and add players just because they have scholarships available. Nixon was a three-star player when he signed with Iowa last year.

He would provide Miami with better depth on the defensive line. Nixon would not make the same kind of impact that the other transfers Miami has added are expected to.
