Transportation officials are recommending drivers allow for some travel time this week with a NASCAR racing event in Las Vegas expected to create heavier-than-usual traffic on Interstate 15 north of the city.
The Penzoil 400 race weekend, which runs Friday through Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, is expected to draw some 100,000 people and 25,000 additional vehicles to the area for a series of races and race-related events.
“We expect heavy traffic along northern Interstate 15 during NASCAR race weekend,” said Tony Illia, a spokesperson for the Nevada Department of Transportation. “We advise taking alternate routes, if possible. But, if travel through the area is unavoidable, please plan accordingly and budget additional time to reach your destination.”
The radio station KBAD AM-920 will broadcast regular traffic reports. The latest conditions are available online at nvroads.com.
