Former NFL quarterback and University of Texas star Vince Young was arrested Monday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
The Fort Bend County (Texas) Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Twitter that Young was arrested at 4:31 on Monday morning in the Missouri City area. He was later released the same day on $500 bond.
The office did not respond to USA TODAY Sports’ inquiry for comment on the case.
Deputies told the Houston Chronicle they found Young’s black Cadillac sedan at an intersection with its hazard lights on.
“The deputy noticed slurred speech and a strong smell of alcoholic beverage,” Bob Haenel, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, told the Chronicle. “(Young) flunked every sobriety test they gave to him.”
The arrest was Young’s second for DWI in approximately three years after he pleaded no contest to a 2016 charge.
Young, 35, was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft by the Tennessee Titans after leading Texas to a national championship in his junior year. He was named offensive rookie of the year in 2006 and twice was selected to the Pro Bowl, but the Titans released him after five years.
Young spent the 2011 season as a backup on the Philadelphia Eagles before brief offseason stints with the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns. He attempted a return to football in 2017 with the Canadian Football League’s Saskatchewan Roughriders but never played for the team after suffering a hamstring injury in training camp.
