Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo this evening became the first player to reach a remarkable goalscoring milestone in UEFA competition, after finding the net during the first-half of the Italian champions’ clash with Atletico Madrid.
Juventus vs Atletico
Juve and Atleti are currently locked in action at the Allianz Stadium, in the second-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Diego Simeone’s visitors came into proceedings in firm control of the tie, having secured a richly-deserved 2-0 victory in the first-leg between the sides on the 20th of February.
Central defenders Jose Gimenez and Diego Godin bagged the goals for Los Colchoneros 3 weeks ago, handing Juventus their latest setback in the club’s quest to end their lengthy Champions League drought.
Ronaldo doing what Ronaldo does
The hopes of the Bianconeri of securing a remarkable turnaround got off to a superb start over the opening 45 minutes in Turin tonight, though.
A dominant first-half display in the part of Max Allegri’s men eventually saw Juve take a 1-goal advantage into the interval.
It could easily have been more, with a contentious early decision having seen Giorgio Chiellini’s finish with just 3 minutes on the clock ruled out amid strong debate.
When the opener did come, it was mr. Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo, who bagged it.
