Carl Grundstrom made quite a first impression in his NHL debut with the Kings on Saturday night.
The 21-year-old right winger, who was acquired by Los Angeles in a trade with Toronto for defenseman Jake Muzzin in January, found the back of the net in the third period for his first career goal. The goal was the equalizer at the time, tying the game at two; however, LA would go on to lose to the Coyotes 4-2.
On the play, Arizona netminder Darcy Kuemper sent Derek Forbort’s shot right to Grundstrom at the top of the crease. He used his skate to kick the puck to his stick, setting himself up perfectly for the wide-open goal.
Drafted by the Maple Leafs in the second round of the 2016 draft, the Swede suited up in 55 AHL games this season between the Toronto Marlies and Ontario Reign notching 16 goals and 23 assists.
Grundstrom will look to build on his opportunity with the last-place Kings Sunday at the Anaheim Ducks.
