Mushtaq Ali T20: Buoyant Bengal eye winning start | Cricket News

KOLKATA: Bengal will be high on confidence when they face Railways in their first Syed Mushtaq Ali (T20) Super League Group ‘A’ fixture at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore on Friday.

Having qualified for the main round by winning their last three matches in the preliminary group league stage, Bengal will be eager to maintain the momentum.

They will again bank on a good start from Wriddhiman Saha, who roared back to form with a century and a fifty in the league matches. Vice-captain Abhimanyu Easwaran and skipper Manoj Tiwary have also chipped in with useful contributions.

On the bowling front, youngster Ishan Porel performed much better in the shortest format after failing to shine in the Ranji Trophy. Pacers Sayan Ghosh also provided good support to Ashok Dinda.

Like Bengal, however, Railways have been in good form as they topped their group with five wins in six matches.

Railways have a good pace attack comprising Anureet Singh, Amit Mishra, KK Upadhyay and Asish Yadav, while left-hander Pratham Singh has been in fine form with the bat.

Tiwary is ready for a tough challenge. “Each and every team playing in the Super League is strong,” he said. “There won’t be any easy game. But if you want to be champions, you have to be prepared to beat strong teams,” he added.

Bengal’s match will be the second of the day (from 1.30 pm) and the team management plans to visit the venue early to watch the morning game (Jharkhand vs Gujarat) to get an idea of the pitch. “We will observe the pitch behaviour on Friday morning and decide on the playing XI,” Tiwary stated, hinting at the possibility of some changes in the playing XI.
