Tottenham’s new stadium could be delayed again by this UEFA rule

Tottenham Hotspur may be forced to play a potential Champions League quarter-final at Wembley next month, according to the Times.

UEFA have concerns over the north London club staging their first game at their new stadium in the Champions League.

Spurs are hopeful that Arsenal was their last game at the national stadium, however, the FA Cup has complicated the move back to N17.

Following Saturday’s north London derby, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have no more games to be staged at Wembley.

However, with Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion both still in the FA Cup, complications have been thrown up.

Tottenham’s league fixtures against the two clubs are set to be rescheduled unless the Seagulls are unable to negotiate their way past Millwall.

On April 7, Tottenham are set to host the club from the south coast, with the Champions League quarter-finals the week following.

If Chris Hughton’s side loses to the League 1 club, no problem.

If they advance, Tottenham will be hoping to be drawn away for the first leg of a possible Champions League tie.

In this case, Huddersfield Town would be the first opponents at the new stadium.

This would then allow for the second leg to take place at their new home.

Although a home draw in the first leg could force Tottenham to return to Wembley.

UEFA’s stadium, security and operations team hold concerns over Spurs opening their new stadium in the competition.
