Lleyton Hewitt, Dylan Alcott, Nick Kyrgios and Alex de Minaur have been named in GQ Australia’s Top 50 Greatest Living Australian athletes list. Australian tennis champion Lleyton Hewitt is defined as a ‘living legend.’
Hewitt was praised for his never-say-die attitude, his trademark gut-wrenching cries of ‘Come on!’. not to mention his backwards cap. These are all traits which have also seemingly been passed down to his son Cruz, who showcases his emerging tennis talent on his Instagram.
Hewitt is the last Australian male to win a Grand Slam. He won Wimbledon in 2002. He also still holds the record as the youngest male to become World No. 1, at 20 years old in 2001. Australian prodigy De Minaur is learning a lot from his mentor – Hewitt, and was also named on GQ’s list, described as the leader of the next gen.
The 20 year old has climbed his way up the rankings, overtaking controversial pair Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic as the highest ranked Australian male player. He won his first title at home in Sydney earlier this year. Kyrgios was also named on the list, defined as ‘a current King.’ The unpredictable Australian is fresh off an incredible run to victory at Acapulco and enters the Indian Wells Masters riding a wave of confidence.
He is undeniably talented, albeit inconsistent, and many are hoping everything will come together for the 23 year old to translate his extraordinary ability into Grand Slam success. Alcott is also defined as ‘a current King.’ The six-time Paralympic gold medalist and seven time Grand Slam champion is unstoppable.
After winning his record fifth Australian Open title in January, Alcott continues to promote his best-selling book and the upcoming Ability Fest to raise awareness and support for kids with disabilities. Alcott continues to advocate to remove the taboo of disabilities with the hard work he puts into the Dylan Alcott Foundation.
As if that isn’t enough, he has also designed his own Nike kicks.
