Rochdale boss backs Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli over diving storm

No issue

The talking point of the day may well have been how well Rochdale did to get a draw from their FA Cup tie to force a replay against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, but in terms of players, it was once again Dele Alli who dominated the post match talk.

That’s because of the player’s actions and possible play acting – or dive – that once again gave an advantage to his side, however, while many people expressed their anger at him, Rochdale boss Hill had no issues with it, and even added he wants Alli to do it come the World Cup, for England.

The Mirror report Hill said: “I’m led to believe he (Alli) was looking for it, but why not? If players feel there is an opportunity to be gained then brilliant, I don’t hold it against him.

“I don’t blame him and I don’t have a problem with it.

“Whether it’s him, Harry Kane or Ian Henderson, it doesn’t matter who does it.

“If he does that for England in the World Cup this summer then I will definitely be supporting him.

“It was a feeling of reward, not relief, because the performance deserved at least the opportunity for us to go to Wembley for a replay.

“The first half was magnificent in how we took the game to the opposition.

“It was a test, but I’ve always wanted to do that against a Premier League team and manager – why not take them on and try to win?

“It could have been football suicide but I thought we gained their respect and to score the goal we did was tremendous.

“It was a marvellous feeling for those players to be involved in that first half and I said to the lads at half-time that the second would test them more than they’ve ever been tested but I thought the players were magnificent.”

Games

There will now of course be another game for Spurs to add to their fixture list, after already having to replay Newport County, and it seems they simply cannot get the same amount of effort from the players in the FA Cup that they do in the league and Champions League – where of course they came back from two goals down to draw with Juventus.
