Trinity School of Texas will have three chances to bring home a state tennis championship over the next two days as the Titans send three doubles teams to Waco to compete in the TAPPS State Tennis Tournament.
Play begins for Trinity School at 2:30 p.m. today at the Waco Regional Tennis Center, and action concludes on Thursday for players and teams that advance.
Representing Trinity School of Texas is the team of sophomores Allan Long and Camp Stevens, seniors Austin Blackwell and J.T. Powers and freshmen Shannon Guttry and Ella Stevens.
Long and Stevens won the North Regional Tennis Tournament to earn the top seed at the state tournament.
Blackwell and Powers are making their second trip to the state tournament, earning a spot in the semifinals a year ago. They finished second at regionals behind Long and Stevens, and will also play as a top seed at the state tournament.
Guttry and Stevens won four tournaments and placed in two others this spring, finishing third at the North Regional Tournament.
At the North Regional Tournament, the TST girls finished third in a 12-team field and the boys were second in an 11-team field.
Other team members who competed at regionals were singles players Emily Fleming, Abbie Sharp and Jon Marc Gorges and the doubles team of Micah Cobb and Daisy French.
The team’s coach is Mike Meredith.
